This glove is a favourite amongst alpine climbers around the world for it's simple and robust design. 

Staying dry is the best way to stay warm in cold conditions. Having a separate GTX lining means not only that is keeps the water out, but it is also a lot quicker to dry out in the case that it gets wet. Non-modular gloves can take a lot longer to dry out which is not handy when you're up a mountain. Use the shell on its own in wet conditions that aren't so cold for more dexterity. 

The removable liner has space to fit a hand warmer in it. It is easy to carry multiple liners and swap them out should one get damp from sweat or the like. Use a warmer liner in it to get a glove that is fully adaptable.
